Amberjack can be a fun diversion at times when tuna aren’t biting, or used as a stop en route to tuna or billfish, when you just want to get some action before going a bit further offshore.

At MGFC, we fish for Amberjack year round. They’re commonly seen in schools comprised of young fish which weigh between 8 – 20 pounds. As the fish get larger, they can approach an average of 30 – 60 pounds, but stay close to rig structures, wrecks and artificial reefs. It’s not rare to see Amberjack exceed 100 pounds, but it doesn’t matter, for at most any size, Amberjack give a good fight.
