Though there’s plenty of big fish out of Venice, LA right now, Mother Nature wasn’t kind the past few days. But, … no worries! Just gave me a reason to count my blessings. Make that 20 blessings. As in 20 of the newest, baddest ass, Shimano reels.
The Louisiana State Department of Wildlife and Fisheries bucked federal fish managers by opening a year long season. For those of you who don’t know, Red Snapper season is a contentious, and as of this moment, a convoluted bureaucratic mess.
Venice, LA is known as the yellowfin tuna capital. Some things just don’t change. But, when live bait shows up in February — 2 months earlier than normal — you just know we’re in for a crazy good, fun summer with plenty of tuna action.
Good God, it was nice to be back on the water. After the crush of the holiday season, not to mention an uncooperative Mother Nature near the end of 2013, we’ve hit the water in January, and we’re seeing good action. These guys were pleased to have a mess of yellowfin tuna to take back with them to South Carolina.
Yellowfin tuna and wahoo looking good now, and from here should be steady. Blue water is starting to move in close.
We’ll be looking for yellowfin, wahoo, blackfin and amberjack.
